Day 25 Steamboat Springs, CO to Breckenridge, CO third century ride and Rabbit Ears Pass:)

So today we woke up at 5:30 and had our breakfast.  We met up with the Rodgers family again.  Bruce rode today but Layton didnt.  We also met up with Dustin who is a pro cyclist that works for KRG.

Today we knew was going to be a rough day as it was 105 miles of riding and we were going to be riding through Rabbit Ears Pass. It was a nice 11 or so miles up a 6-8% grade.  We did pretty good even if it was a tough ride.  I was riding with Blake and Dave today and they pushed me a lot and we made it.

We had a scare at the end as there was lightning so we didnt know if we were going to get racked but we rode through the rain and got all the way to Breckenridge.

When we got in we showered at the local Rec Center and then we headed to Lodging.  Lodging is a cabin up at the top of a hill lol so there are beds and it is a nice place.

Bruce and KRG took us out to dinner tonight at this really nice restaurant. We had spaghetti and Lasagna.

After that we came back to the lodging and now I am writing this getting ready for tomorrow when we go through Loveland Pass which is the highest freeway pass in the US.  We will be cycling up to 11,990 feet tomorrow granted we are already at 9800 ft so we dont have much to go up but It will be a fun ride into Empire tomorrow

Have a great night

Day 24 Craig, CO to Steamboat Springs, CO Easy day yay

So today we woke up at 6am and got to meet Bruce Rodgers.  For those out there in internet land who dont know Bruce is I will tell you about him.

In 1987 Bruce decided he wanted to spread the message of Push America across the country and his method was to cycle across the country.  Ever since he did that first ride the Journey of Hope has been happening every year since and growing every year.  Bruce co-founded KRG Capital which is an equity firm and every year he sponsors the Journey of Hope and basically makes it possible.

So we met Bruce and his family (Wife: Sally Son: Layton Daughter: Madison) and Bruce and Laden rode with us today from Craig to Steamboat Springs.  The will also ride with us tomorrow as well and all the way until Denver

The ride today was very easy and took us about 2.5 hours. We left about 7:15 in the morning and arrived a little after 10.  It was a lot of rolling hills and that was about it.

We arrived into town and went to the highschool where we unpacked and setup our beds.

Me and a few people went out for lunch at a place called Double Z's BBQ which had really good food but didnt accept credit cards :(

After that I came back and took a nap and at about 5pm we headed over to a gentlemans house that was hosting our dinner and having a friendship visit. We visited with the clients of Horizons of Steamboat Springs and did some dancing and eating and having fun.

After that we had an hour to kill before we went out to the local ice cream/Candy shop as Bruce was buying us all ice cream and candy.  I got some Jelly Bellys:)

After that I headed back to Lodging where I am writing my blog and now going to bed

Have a good night

Day 23 Dinosaur, CO to Craig, CO No rack today yay

So today we woke up at 5:30 and had our breakfast. We then got in our pacelines and cycled out of the town and headed to Craig, CO.  The journey was long and tiring. I rode with Saurabh, and Michael Walton. I have come to hate rolling hills as it never seems like you accomplish anything. So with the really tight rack point we made it with about a minute to spare lol but we made it all 88 miles today and I was happy that we finished.

When we got into Craig we hung out at the Kum & Go till we were ready for our arrival.  We double pacelined to the arrival at the Boys and Girls Club of Craig and then we hung out with the kids there for a while. We had ice cream and the guys performed the "Kids on the Block" puppet show which the kids really liked.

I met this really cool 11 year old I think her name was Allison and I was very impressed at how intelligent she was. She was able to hold great conversation and even correct my grammar.

After that we showered changed and then headed out to a picnic shelter and hung out with the clients of the Horizons group. They fed us a great dinner and then we launched water balloons and watched as everyone got crazy with the squirting of water at each other. To the point where people were getting coolers of water dumped on them.

We then went back to lodging and had a team meeting to learn about what to expect in Denver and the days surrounding it.

Then we made a trip to McDonalds to get ice and now I am catching up on the blog and going to bed 6am wake up tomorrow

Good Night All

Day 22 Duchense, UT to Naples, UT to Dinosaur, CO LOL

So today we woke up at 6am and had our breakfast. We then did a double paceline for a while to get out of town and then we went off on our 95 mile ride from Duchense, UT to Dinosaur, CO.

It was a long and boring ride after the first 20 miles.  Though after 65 miles one of the guys chains popped off and the derailer was messed up.  Then I was standing around and then just started feeling light headed. When the Project Manager came to figure out his chain situation he told me that I should just rack my bike the rest of the ride as the road we had been on was really really heavily trafficked  with trucks and he didnt want me falling over or swerving out into traffic so the last 27 miles I rode in the van.

From what I was told by the PM and the guys that went the whole way was that the last 27 miles were just extremely hot and deserty and really not pleasant at all.  My PM said it wouldnt be worth it to risk my health for those few miles

So we got into Dinosaur and went and got some milkshakes and then setup and showered and changed.

We were then fed dinner by the locals here and it was really good. Tomorrow we are off to Craig, CO and hopefully it will be a better day

Have a good night

Day 21 Park City, UT to Duchense, UT Gone Tubing!!!!!!

So today we woke up at 5:30 (back to biking and waking up early for a few days)  and checked out of our hotel rooms.  We had breakfast out in the parking lot and had some left overs from breakfast the other day Eggs and potatoes which were good.

We headed out on our 86 mile ride to Duhense.  It was long but pretty decent the first 10 or so miles.  Then we went up a long uphill.  We climbed from 7000ft to 9500 feet with some small decents in there as well.  Over all we did 4600 feet of climbing today which wasnt too bad.  We had a nice decent the rest of the day and made it into town about 120pm.  We setup and changed into our swim suits as we were told we were going to the lake.

We got to the lake and went for a little swim and then came back out to learn a little about the town from the city commissioner.  He brought us a bunch of snacks and water which was really cool.

We hung out for a bit and the guys played some soccer and football and then we were told that we were going to get to go boating/tubing.  We were excited at this and I had never been tubing before.

So I waited and in like 30 mins it was my turn to hop on the boat. I went on with Kyle, Jack, Austin, Jeff, and Sanjeeve.  It was a two person tube and I watched Jeff and Kyle go first. They lasted a while but eventually Kyle wiped and then Jeff shortly after.

I went next with Sanjeeve and we lasted quite a while till I decided to take one of my hands off to wave and woo hoo and I wiped.  Then Jack and Austin went on and they did pretty well but eventually wiped epically together.

I went back out with Jeff and we held on strong till Jeffs foot went in the water and we just flipped.  It was so much fun and I am glad we did it.

After that we went to the park next to the school and we had a nice dinner of ribs, potatoes, chili and other things served to us by the lions club.  It was really good food and after that we took a group picture and headed back to lodging.

We did a team esque type event and then it was time for bed.

Day 20 Second day off. Chillin in Park City, UT

So today we got to sleep in a little had a 7am wake up on our day off.  Though today was not entirely free as we had a lot of things planned.  We woke up and put on our cycling outfits (yes I know I said it was our day off) We hopped on our bicycles and rode with a sweet police escort 4 miles downhill to the Whole Foods Market in Park City.

Whole Foods sponsored us with a really nice breakfast with eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurt, juice, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy etc.  We ate alot today since we didnt have to hop right on a bike and ride. After breakfast we racked our bikes and rode back to the hotel to change for our team event.

We then rode to the Utah Olympic park where we did some ziplining and some alpine sliding and just had some fun. We got to watch people doing some sweet jumps on skiis and just explore the park that was home to the 2002 olympic games.

We then rode back to Main st where we had our dinner the night before and we went to the Deli on Main st where the owner Barb served us sandwiches and ice cream for lunch and we got to hang out and chat with her for a bit.

We then went to visit a local bike shop so a couple guys could get things for their bikes and then we had naptime for a few hours.

After that we went to the National Abilities Center where we rode bikes and trikes with people with disabilities  Some of the guys brought theirs and went on like a 7 mile ride with some of the clients and me and others rode trikes and hand cycles with others.  We had a great time and and then we headed back to the hotel to have some pizza for dinner and now I am catching up on videos and blog posts and organizing for tomorrow.

Have a great night internet

Day 19 Salt Lake City, UT to Park City, UT Rack Rack City:)

So we got to sleep in a whole hour later today and woke up at 6:30am.  We woke up and were told we had 45 mins to get ready instead of the usual 30 and that we were being taken to McDonalds for breakfast.

So we got packed up and left the church and racked our bikes on the vans and headed to McDonalds.  We were at McDonalds for like an hour eating and relaxing as our visit was not ready for a bit.

We then departed for a park where for the next few hours we hung out with this group called TRAILS (Therapeutic Recreation & Independent Lifestyles) that focuses on adaptive sports. They brought a bunch of hand cycles out for us to try and so we all rode around on them for a while. They also had a cross country skiboard setup that we tried out.

After that we rode our bikes to the Whole Foods where we were fed lunch and then we rode our bikes about 11 miles up a hill to little mountain pass and we took some pictures up there and then rode down the hill.  It was a fun hill but at the bottom we were all racked because we couldnt ride our bikes on the highway. We were driven about 6 miles and then we took our bikes off and then our project manager told us we didnt have time to ride to lodging so we put our bikes back on the racks and were driven to our lodging. We are staying at a hotel in Park city as we are here for two days.

We checked in and showered and then headed out to the Wasatch brew pub and were served a really good meal and then I went back to lodging and tried to help one of the guys with photos and update my blog so I think I am doing well I just need to get one video up for yesterday and I am good

Day 18 Payson, UT to Salt Lake City, UT and the Mormon Temple

So today we woke up earlier 5:15 and we had a better breakfast ie. we got a whole bagel instead of a half.

We then went out and rode 80 miles before 1pm which was a lot of work.  I rode with Chris and Jason today and well it was a trip. We had some headwind and then a lot of rolling hills. I got some good pictures with my gopro today and it was more scenic

We actually went through a few cities and some civilization which is a change from the desert.  We rode today with Jeff who is a 5 time Pi Alpha and when we got into Salt Lake City we were fed by the United methodist church and the Childrens Tumor Foundation. They fed us a Spaghetti lunch and we learned a lot about NF Neuro Fibromatosis (SP?)

We then rode to lodging which is Zion Lutheran church and showered and setup our sleeping arrangements.

After that Jeff took us out to dinner at a place called Iggy's Grill in SLC where we had some great food and some great conversation and watched the Blackhawks pound the Bruins.

We then went to check out the large Mormon Temple and then head back to lodging.

Today was a fun day, challenging, but fun

Have a good night

Day 17 Delta, UT to Payson, UT first ride along

So today was the normal thing waking up at 5:30 and having breakfast in the parking lot. Seems like mornings are the same. Pack up, get outside and packed in 30 mins or less, breakfast, circle up and then head out.

Today I was riding with Dave and Kevin and it was a very stressful ride.  We had a schedule to keep so this was the first day that people got racked because of not making it to rack point.

The ride was long we rode 72 miles through long and boring rolling hills but we did get to a nice summit at the end after we had gotten through Eureka, UT.  We arrived to Payson at like 12:20 and waited around until our ride alongs showed up.  We rode the remaining 4 miles to our final destination with members of CAF (Challanged Athletes Foundation). When we got to the senior center in Payson we were fed a nice dinner cooked by the inmates at a local prison.

I then went out and did some laundry and came back to lodging.

We had Subway subs for dinner that were sponsored by a Pi Kapp that is a 5 time Pi Alpha (did Journey of Hope, Gear up Florida, or Build America)

We then had a team meeting where we talked about safety amongst other things.

Day 16 Baker, NV to Delta, UT with mexican food and car washes

So today was another typical 5:30 wake up and we got everything out of the place we were staying at and had a wonderful banana and bagel breakfast.

Today was kinda sucky because it was a 96 mile day but our PM decided that we need more century rides so he put it to a vote the night before to add 4 miles to the route so that it would be over 100 and the yays won so we had an over a 100 mile day today.

Today was really just long and boring.  We started out having a few hills to climb and then a nice decent that you can see in the video below and then after that it was pretty much flat for the remaining 80 miles with about 40-50 of that being one straight road.

We saw some desert and some salt flats but not much else.  The road was really rough and bumpy but after about 9 hours we finally got to Delta, UT

We arrived and got showered and changed and then headed out to get a team dinner at a local mexican place called Zapata's.  They had really good food and really cheap food. We stuffed ourselves there and then went to the car wash to wash the team vans. That was fun and you can see that in the video as well.

After that I came back to the lodging and started working on the videos and blogs for the past few days along with having a safety meeting and now after I finish this going to bed:)

I hope you all had a great day and I will talk to you tomorrow.

Day 15 Ely, NV to Baker, NV and jumping rumble strips

So today we woke up at like 5:30 like usual and had our usual bagel and banana breakfast and then we headed out from the really nice high school on what turned out to be a great ride.

We rode about 61 miles from Ely, NV to Baker, NV and it was a pretty quick trip. We left at like 6:30-7am and with stops and everything we got there by like 11:30am. We got in and setup in the community center of Baker which is a town of about 50 people and had our lunch.  We got shuttled to a truckstop/rv park/casino/motel/laundry/shower place down the road and took showers.

Then we took a little nap till Josh somehow hit a fire alarm box with a basketball at the precise angle to set it off and then after we silenced that we all got in the vans and went for a trip to the Lehman caves. Apparently these caves are very famous and very well trafficked.  After the caves we were taken up to about 10,000ft on this mountain to just get away for a few mins and then came back and had dinner with the townspeople of Baker.

They fed us really well and we learned a lot about their town and some of the struggles that it is facing. Primarily the situation that Las Vegas is trying to take their water since they are having a hard time keeping up with the water needs of the city.

After that we went back to lodging and went to bed.

This town had no cell service at all so that is why this is late posted but I hope you enjoyed the read

Videos are now caught up:)

Check out all the videos from Day 8 till Day 14.  I finally got some internet and got them all uploaded.

Day 14 Eureka to Ely (The day of the crazy wind)

So today we got to wake up a little later 6am as opposed to 5:30 yay. We woke up and got ready like we normally do and got outside for a wonderful Crew Chief breakfast.

We had all circled up and got prepared for the day. As usual people who leave stuff in the vans at the end of the day have to dance for everyone to get their stuff back so that was cool especially since today two of the crew members (Sam and Kyle) had to dance for us.

We left out about 7am and the first few hills weren't that bad but after a while it got a little more intense.  The ride was only 80 miles which isnt bad considering we did kirkwood which was 12k feet of climb and we did a 111 mile day but the issue today was the wind.

The wind was so strong and it was always in front of us.  We were headed down about a 3% grade and had to push hard to get down the hill the winds were so strong. I swear if I stopped peddling the winds would have pushed me up back up the hill.

I rode with Beau today and he really helped push me and we even finished first today which was crazy as I havent ever been in first let alone finish first. It was pretty amazing.

So we got in and once again lodging was at the top of the tallest hill in the city but it felt good to get to lodging.  We were welcomed by a few of the high school students and one of the faculty. They chatted with us for a while and then served us carne asada steak tacos which were fantastic.

Afterwards we all introduced ourselves and thanked them for having us here and then some of the guys went out to watch Man of Steel in the theater where as I sat in with my internet and uploaded all of the videos I was waiting for.

I am going to go get a McDonalds snack and then head to bed.

Have a good night

Day 13 Day 3 on "The Loneliest Road"

So today we woke up at 5:30 and had breakfast and then headed out on a 70 mile ride from Austin, NV to Eureka, NV.

It was a long and boring ride we started out going up a hill about 1000 foot climb and then down a small hill and then back up another 700 feet and then way downhill and then slowly uphill and then back downhill and then a lot of flat lands but the flat lands came with a nice 15 mph headwind.

The ride was long and we got in about 2pm. We took a shower at the local pool and then we took a nap and then went to dinner provided by the Lions club.

Today was not that exciting but once we get into Denver it should be better.

Day 12 Fallon to Austin

So today we woke up at 530am and packed up and had some breakfast out in the parking lot.

We then headed out on our ride which was our first century ride (over 100 miles). It was a pretty long and rough ride. We had some hills and then some flat land and then we gained like 2000ft over the course of like 10 miles.  After that we started to get tired and the last 20 miles were just slowly uphill till the last 3 miles that were very uphill.  We finally got in and felt so good to have made it.

After we got in we showered and then setup in a local church. We then headed out for dinner at a park in town and were fed by "The awesome ladies" We had a really nice home cooked thanksgiving type dinner.   We sung to the ladies and then headed back to lodging

Day 11 Carson City to Fallon

So today we woke up OMG so early lol. We woke up at like 4:30am to my music as I am DJ Doug:)

We woke up early as the Kiwanis club was feeding us a pancake breakfast. They had pancakes, Sausage, fruit and all kinds of stuff.

We then went back to the high school to take a picture and then we headed out for the first part of highway 50 also known as "The Loneliest Road"  We rode for about 65 miles from Carson City, NV to Fallon, NV.

We got there really quick and then once we got our lunch and into the gym for lodging I showered and took a nap. I was really tired since I got 4 hours of sleep the night before.

At about 6pm we went to a local convention center where the Humble Shredder company treated us to a potluck dinner and we got to hang out with people that work for the company.  They provide jobs shredding documents for people with disabilities which is really cool.

After dinner we did some dancing and Karaoke in which I actually sang. I did Billy Joel's Piano Man and it went well even though I couldn't hit any of the high notes.

We then departed back for housing but stopped at walmart to get mascots for our vans.

Now I am here catching up on videos and then headed to bed

Day 11 Breakfast

Day 10 Lake Tahoe, CA to Carson City, NV

So today we woke up at about 630 and got our breakfast.  We had to get everything ready and out of the Church we were sleeping at.

We headed out on our short ride to Carson City where we had an arrival at the Boys and Girls club of West Carson City.  We had a nice police escort with cars and motorcycles.  One of the motorcycles decided to hop up on a sidewalk ride down a little way and then just do some movie style stunt jump off of the sidewalk back onto the street.  Another one went between the cars going the wrong way so it was interesting.

We hung out with the like 75 kids that were at the B&G club. We had some pizza lunch and then we watched some of our brothers do a puppet show about people with disabilities and watched one of the brothers talk about bicycle safety.

After that we rounded everyone up for some photos and then did another arrival (no escort this time) at a children's museum and did the same thing only no food this time lol.

After that we rode to the highschool that we are staying at took showers and got ready for dinner.

We ate dinner at a house that was put on by people of the rotary club of Carson City. It was an amazing dinner and we all had a great time

After that we came back and had a team meeting and just discussed various things about what was going on and then I made my playlist for morning wake up at 4:30 yay

Day 9 Our first day off

So today we had our first day off after our difficult day yesterday.

We woke up late and then I went out and did some laundry and get a snack. Then we went out to the beach for a little and some of the guys went paddle boarding.

I went to grab a shower and go swimming for a little bit. I then went back and just tried to catch up on videos but with phone internet being really slow I was not able to do much.

We then went out and got dinner at a restaurant called the Blue Angel. We had some good food and hung out with the guy that sponsored our dinner and basically the entire day off.

After that I just hung out at lodging and tried more to update the blog and even went war driving but no luck with wifi

Day 8 Kirkwood (Jackson, CA to Lake Tahoe, CA)

So today again there is no video yet. Internet has been sparse so I have been making the videos but not able to upload them yet but we have a day off tomorrow and i will get caught up.

So today we woke up at 5:30am and got ready and checked out of our Gym accommodations and then rode our bicycles down the really steep hill to Mel and Fayes diner again for breakfast. They gave us an awesome breakfast consisting of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, grits, fruit..... basically everything we needed for our beastly day ahead of us.

At about 8am we departed for what will have been our most epic of journeys. We rode kirkwood as its called. To break it down for you its probably the hardest thing we will ever have to do on this trip.  It started out very easy but then just got progressively more difficult. To break it down simply for you here are the stats

Distance: 93 miles
Time (on bike) to complete: just over 9 hours
Three mountain passes
Highest point reached: 8500ft ASL
Elevation start: 1217ft ASL
Total Elevation Climb: 11,500ft

All of that equals the most epic bike ride ever

So Me and my riding partner finished in pretty much exactly 12 hours with stops. Our average speed was 9.7mph and my max speed coming down one of the passes was 53mph

This was by far the most intense ride I have ever done. I mean it is the longest, and steepest journey as well.

Words cant describe the struggle getting through it and if it werent for my riding partner to push me through and our safety coach Dean. I probably would not have finished.

After we all got in we went and showered and then headed over to Sierra Pizza to get dinner. I had like 7 pieces as I was starving.  When you burn around 5000 calories you become hungry. After that we went back to lodging and I got to start catching up on this blog.

Day 7 Sacramento, CA to Jackson, CA

So today(yesterday lol) we were in Jackson, CA with no wifi and no cell service so I couldnt post anything at all so here I am a day later posting....

So today we woke up at 5am because we were punished for taking too long the day before to get ready in the morning. We had a really awesome breakfast of these cupcake egg do jobbers that were cooked by Emily Kashtan. We then left the middle school and went out on a 43ish mile ride from Sacramento to Jackson. It was really nice at first but right towards the end there was a really long but not too steep hill. It pretty much drained everything that we had. We arrived in Jackson and had a really awesome arrival. We even had a police escort.  So for the next few hours we were served lunch (chili dogs)by and hung out with the ARC of Amador County which helps people with disabilities and they had about 50 people there that we hung out with and signed things for and were cheering for us when we rode in all cool and such.

After that we headed back to our lodging but it was a little different. We all had to ride our bikes up something that was very similar to lombard street in San Fran.  It was like a 15 or so % grade. It was tough and not too many made it up in one shot, I know I didnt lol.  We arrived at the highschool that we were staying at and showered and me and some others took a trip out to the bike shop and cvs to get some supplies. Then we came back and got ready for our sponsored dinner at Mel and Faye's Diner. It was really cool we were in the banquet room downstairs and the dinner was sponsored by the Lions club and Mel and Faye.  We chatted with them and had awesome food and then headed back to lodging where I went out to walmart to get a few things and then organized everything for the night.

I recorded a video that hopefully I will be able to upload tonight.

We went to bed about 10pm as we knew that we had our hardest day the next day.

Day 6 Napa, CA to Sacramento, CA

Hello Everyone.

Today was a really fun day. Not as much with the cycling but more so with the friendship visit but I will get to that in a minute. I do have a video today as you can see and there will be one posted for Day 5 but it might be a little bit as I am trying to catch up. Yesterday really put me behind.

So today we woke up at 5:30am and got ready and left. We had our breakfast in the parking lot and then just headed out from there.  We rode about 64 miles from Napa, CA to Sacramento, CA. It was not as bad as the day before with all of the hills but we did have a large hill in the beginning and then it was mostly downhill and flatlands after that.

We arrived in Sacramento at about 1pm and had lunch in a park and had Mr. Pickles sangwhiches. They were really good and after that we rode a mile or so to arrive at the state capitol building. We apparently were suposed to go to the other side but we went to the front lol. So when we got  where we were supposed to go we met up with the people that were having us out there and talked with them for a while and then went to the middle school that we are staying at for the night and showered and put our stuff in the gym then we put on our shirts and headed out to the Southside Art Center

It was really cool as its a center for people with disabilities as well as learning center for people that want to do art. We looked at their art and had a pizza dinner and then we got to enjoy the Southside Ensamble perform a host of songs. If you watch the video you will get to see a few.

It was really cool and everyone got in and danced and had a great time.

After that we headed back to the Gym at the middle school and got ready for bed

We have a 50 mile journey from Sacramento, CA to Jackson, CA tomorrow.

Good night everyone

I am running out of time to post this today its been a long day so I'll tell you about what happened and then I will post the video tomorrow.

So today started at about 5:15am and we were out the door by 5:45am and all packed and ready as we were leaving the hotel.  We drove off to the Golden Gate Bridge and had breakfast with some of the family that came out. At 8am we said goodbye and biked across the Golden Gate Bridge.

We had a long road ahead as our ride was 70 miles but we had a fun ride. There were hills and there were downhills. We went through a nice forest with some like 200ft tall redwoods and it was no wind and so quiet and peaceful. Too bad the gopro was dead at that point or I would have gotten some sweet video of that. It was absolutely beautiful.

We had a lunch in a park and then finished the last 20 miles of the trip. We arrived in napa at about 350 and were super tired. We went up showered and changed and then had a friendship visit and dinner with some special olympics type people. This gentlemen every year gets a bunch of them together to have a sporting event and dinner and we come out and cheer them on and hang out and eat with them.

After that we went back to the hotel and then me and a couple of the guys went out and had a glass of Napa wine. And then I got back and futzed with my GoPro and finally got it to work. It just wasnt turning on for some reason.

Day 4 Training Ride

Hello,

So today was a slower day but getting ready for our first day of actual riding tomorrow.

We woke up at 6:30 and were ready to go by 7am. We drove to the location and had some breakfast. After that we got in our pacelines and headed out. We rode for about 26 miles up and down hills and had a blast. Though me and a lot of others struggled getting up this really huge hill we made it and are ready for tomorrow

After that we came back and did some debriefing and then had some relaxation time in which I took a nap lol.

We then went out to the Montclair Bistro in Oakland for our kickoff dinner. A lot of parents came out to see their sons off and then tomorrow morning at 8am we will be leaving across the golden gate bridge.

Tomorrow truly begins our journey of a lifetime.

After that we went to go visit the Clif Bar HQ and get a tour from Ryan Mayo.

After that we headed to a strip mallesque thing and had some dinner and then headed back for some more training and to check out our bikes.

Day 2

Hello everyone,

So this was Day 2.  Lets hope the video uploads as I have hit my 5gb of data for this month with ATT and they have throttled me so my upload is going to take a couple hours as opposed to 4 mins like it normally takes:( but I will always have a text version of the blog for those that prefer to read or those that dont have video capabilities.

So today we woke up at 6:30 and got all our stuff together and got downstairs for breakfast by 7am. We then went back to the team room for some policies and procedures and safety training. We learned what to do and what not to do on the trip and what is acceptable and what is not acceptable.  We did that for about 5 hours and then after that we had a little break and then lunch and then we headed off to our first friendship visit.

We went to San Francisco to the Pomeroy Recreation and Rehabilitation Center. This facility is huge and helps out clients with a very diverse collection of needs. We were greeted very warmly and were brought in where we were scheduled to play a basketball game.

This game was pretty amazing. I myself am still working on being more outgoing so hopefully by the end I will be able to very easily get out and interact with everyone and not be as nervous/hesitant.  As the game went on we learned very quickly that these people are very good at basketball and well we lost pretty badly with a score of 68-8 we learned that we might need to focus on our cycling and leave the basketball to the pros.

We then received a tour of the facility and saw the structure that Pi Kapps and Push America built many many years ago. They have a great facility that can cater to a variety of needs.  We then had our dinner that was sponsored by Mike Barnes who is a Gamma chapter Alum and a 3 time Pi Alpha (someone that has done Journey of Hope or Gear up Florida). Papa Johns = Best pizza Ever

After that we came back here and did some debriefing and broke for the evening.

Day 0 Supplemental

Yay. A day of coasters to enjoy before orientation begins tomorrow

Day -1

Today I woke up, and then took a bus to the BART train. I then took the BART train from San Francisco to Oakland where I was picked up to get my rental car. After that I drove back to SF to get my bicycle but it hadnt come in yet.

To pass the time I went to a restaurant called "Big Mouth Burgers" and had some really good food and did some catching up on things on my laptop. At about 5 or so I noticed that my bike had arrived so I went back to the fedex place and picked it up.

I then drove to a local bike shop and they let me use a bike stand and I put my bike back together. After that I tried to figure out what I wanted to do and realized that there are two amusement parks within 60 miles of me so I got a hotel in Vallejo and am going to crash here tonight.

Tomorow I am going to go to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

Have a great night

Day -1 Supplemental

Day -2

So yesterday was pretty crazy.  We started out (My friend Alex and I) heading out to go visit our friend John Ivers in Bruceville, IN.  John is responsible for creating a roller coaster in his back yard and we go every year to ride it.

We got some good videos on the roller coaster with my shiny new GoPro H3.  They will be made into a nice video later but today youll get a snippet of them in the video that is uploading while I am typing. so after that we headed out back to Louisville, KY to get our flights to our final destinations.

When we arrived my flight was delayed 45 mins (original departure time was suposed to be 6:10)  and Alex's was delayed about 25. That wasnt that bad but when I got to Chicago everything was delayed like crazy. My flight was originally delayed about a half hour but we finally left about 80 mins late which put me into SF late enough that I couldnt go get my rental car and had to pay a shuttle to get me to my hotel which cost me about 20 bucks which I guess I didnt even need to pay since the driver entered the wrong crediti card number (but I am nice and corrected him).

Finally got to my hotel about 1 in the morning and passed out

Have a great day

Super Late Day -4

So today (yesterday) I finished packing and then flew to Louisville KY where I met my friend and we drove to Holiday World.

We got there early for the first time and got to enjoy the welcome speeches which was cool. Then we went to enjoy our pizza dinner and then went and rode some roller coasters.

I need to get into a groove with videos. So that by wednesday I can be able to do one every day. Its a good thing I started this early so I can get into a rhythm

Have a good day
